ExploreThe license follows the deal, not the advisor's address.
California is one of the states that requires a real estate license to broker the sale of a business. I hold a California Department of Real Estate salesperson license, DRE #02286699, and work as an M&A Advisor at Iconic.
The other 32 states listed above do not currently require a real estate license to broker the sale of a business itself. Every state does require one for real estate, so when a deal includes property or a lease assignment, that part is handled with a real estate professional licensed in that state.
State rules change. Each state's real estate commission is the final word, and I check before taking on any engagement.
Not on the list?
Iconic has M&A advisors across the country. If your business is in a state I do not work in, book a call anyway and I will point you in the right direction.
